Dell Sigmatel Audio Driver Windows Xp

11/9/2017by

My Gateway M675PRR laptop says it has a SigmaTel C-Major Audio driver (STAC97.sys, version 5.10.4201 as an example) which works in Vista (x86). There was no support in either the Win7 beta or RC and therefore no sound. Attempting to find a driver on catalog.update.microsoft.com produces no hits for SigmaTel and a million for Realtek's AC97 driver. Several driver packages have installed 'correctly' but still no sound. Can you direct me to a driver that will work? For example, where can I find the installation package for the driver I'm using in Vista?

Before I tried the Dell drivers I found the old Windows XP driver for the SigmaTel sound card on Gateway's support site. It installed the whole SigmaTel 'package' and is working correctly. Thanks for the help.

Did you install with troubleshoot compatibility or a regular install? Just a regular install. It installed the sound card driver, placed a SigmaTel Control Menu icon on the system tray with context menus for Universal Jacks, Speaker Wizard, Do Not Display, About box and Exit. All appear to be working just fine. Yes, I'm pleasantly surprised.

I quick investigation on Google turned out alot of hits directed to for instance Dell's homepage (for the Dell users I suppose.). The same for HP. I had a quick look at Gateways support and the v 6.

(seems to be newer than yours considering the name) only lists XP and 2000 as supported. I'm afraid I don't have more time to invest in this, but it looks like the card lacks support from the manufacturer for anything later than XP.

I guess your best bet is too try the packages from either Dell or HP that also seems to have used this card in some models. If it does not work on your issue, I'd suggest you installing the Vista driver in Compatibility mode. Remove and rescan that hardware device in Device Manager, right-click on the driver executable/installer file ->Properties and select the Compatibility tab; click the checkbox before Run this program in Compatibility mode for option and select Windows Vista in the list-down box; then try installing the device driver. Hi Doug: I just wanted to post to this about a year and a half after I see you posted this fix. I had taken my sister's Gateway M675PRR laptop and installed Windows 7 Professional on it. The first time I did it I put a new hard drive in and did a clean install. Everything worked but the sound, modem, and the touch pad. I tried installing the drivers for all three with some Vista drivers I downloaded, but they wouldn't take. So, I went the hard way.

I wiped the drive and installed a copy of Vista Business. Then it took the modem and touch pad drivers that I had downloaded. Then I upgraded it to Windows 7. The modem and touch pad transferred over great, but still no sound. I tried everything it seems, all except loading the old XP driver that I had managed to find online.

I started using Bing and came across this forum, and I took you advice and downloaded a fresh copy of the XP driver for sound, and I just now got though loading it. Happy Birthday Full Song Free Download Mp3. I did not use compatibility mode, just straight installed it, and as you pretty well know, it now has sound. Thanks, a year and a half later. I suppose that I could have downloaded the modem and touch pad drivers also, but it's all done now.

I've been in computers since the 80's, and usually can figure this stuff out by myself, but as you know, we all have to search out others from time to time, and that's what I like about these forums in Microsoft. Have a great week. Tom Slaughter Thomas Slaughter.
